About the Tour
Experience a true adrenaline rush with a guided packrafting adventure on the wild and beautiful Namsen River! The tour offers splashing whitewater rapids, exciting challenges, and action-filled encounters with nature – all led by an experienced guide ensuring safety every step of the way. Perfect for those seeking speed, thrill, and a real sense of accomplishment in raw Norwegian nature.
Difficulty and Important Information
This tour is moderately demanding and suitable for most people – including beginners! No paddling experience is necessary, but you must be able to swim and feel comfortable facing natural challenges along the way.
Packrafting on calm water is suitable for everyone, but river paddling demands higher safety awareness and physical resilience. We therefore recommend a minimum age of 18. If you are between 16 and 18 and have written permission from a guardian, you may join. If you are under 16, a guardian must accompany you – either in a packraft or walking along the river.
We want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable experience. That’s why you must be able to maneuver the packraft through rapids independently. If that proves too challenging, you must be prepared to carry your packraft past certain sections.
Meeting Point and Time
Meeting Point: Nams-inn Vertshus, Namsskogan
Time: The date and time are specified in the confirmation email you receive upon booking.
Insurance
All participants must have valid travel insurance that covers paddling. This is essential in case of unforeseen events before or during the trip.
Clothing and Weather
You will get wet, so dress according to the weather and temperature. It is crucial to bring dry clothes to change into after the trip. See our packing list for detailed recommendations.
River Flow
The water level in the river affects both difficulty and experience:
-
High water flow: More thrilling and challenging with stronger currents
-
Low water flow: Calmer and easier ride
Namsen’s water flow varies daily based on rainfall and snowmelt:
-
Low flow: Under 3 m³/s
-
Ideal conditions: 4–8 m³/s
-
High flow: Up to 25 m³/s, typically during heavy rain or spring snowmelt
Route Adjustments Due to Water Flow
There is always water in the Namsen, so paddling is always possible. However, if the water flow is too strong, we may need to walk along the riverbank and re-enter the river further down. This will be assessed by the guide – safety is always the top priority.

Packing List
To ensure a safe and comfortable experience, you must bring:
-
Long wool or technical underwear (leggings and long-sleeve top), and wool socks to keep warm when wet
-
Waterproof outerwear (jacket and trousers) for paddling
-
Lightweight sneakers or similar suitable footwear for paddling
-
Dry change of clothes for after the trip – packed in a standard plastic bag (e.g., grocery bag)
-
Snacks and a water bottle – no official meal break is planned, but a bite to eat is recommended
-
Waterproof packing – a waterproof pack sack (approx. 10 liters)
-
Everything you bring should be packed 100% waterproof and securely fastened to the packraft
-
Use a plastic bag inside the waterproof sack for extra protection
-
Bring a carabiner to secure the bag
-
Pack your phone and electronics waterproof – a simple sandwich bag can work if you don’t have a dry pouch
-
Tip: Pack minimally – space is limited in the packraft. Be mindful of what you truly need.
Clothing for Paddling – You WILL Get Wet!
What you wear depends on the season and water temperature:
-
Warm summer day: Swimwear like board shorts may be fine
-
Cooler days: Wetsuit recommended
-
Cold conditions / winter: Dry suit strongly recommended
-
Alternatively: Wool or technical base layers under waterproof outerwear work well too
The most important thing is that your clothes keep you warm for hours – even when soaking wet.
One thing is certain – you and your clothes will get wet during the trip. Everything you want to keep dry afterward must fit in one regular plastic bag. Pack light and practical – space is limited in the waterproof bag. Wear light footwear like sneakers and be prepared to change clothes outdoors at the trip's end in Namsskogan.
